MMCA: Apply now – Support for less developed countries
The Carinthia University of Applied Sciences assists exceptional talents from economically disadvantaged countries to participate in the master’s degree in the Management of Conservation Areas
“We can enable selected persons to participate in the master’s degree in the Management of Conservation Areas,” says Michael Jungmeier, scientific director of the programme. He says that although the costs of participation are “manageable”, they are often an insurmountable hurdle for applicants from southern countries. The University of Applied Sciences intends to reduce the course fees for a small number of participants. Jungmeier says, “We see this as our university’s contribution towards global sustainable development.”
The university can grant a reduction in the course fees on the basis of the United Nations’ Human Development Index (HDI). Prospective students can apply for the course immediately. Support will be granted to people who want and are demonstrably able to use the acquired skills for their institution, their region or their country. Professional excellence, life and career so far and personal motivation play a decisive role in the assessment of suitability for support.
This is how it works: the starting point is the HDI status of the country of origin. Applicants apply for a reduction of the course fees depending on the HDI status (very high, high, medium or low); this may be as much as 75 percent. With the help of a financial plan, applicants demonstrate that they can plausibly cover the remaining costs (course fee, travel, accommodation/residence).
The price reduction can be granted for a maximum of two persons per category. The closing date for applications is 30 November 2019.
